The Palin Pick
John McCain recently shocked the press by picking Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska, as his running mate in the 08 presidential race. The self-proclaimed “maverick” picked a running mate just as willing to take on the establishment as he has always been. This mother of five began her political career over 10 years ago as a mayor of a small town in Alaska. Over 10 years later, with a fighting spirit and a desire to fix government, Sarah has been chosen to be the first female vice presidential candidate on the Republican ticket in history– proving that the “glass ceiling” isn’t as high nor thick as feminists might have you believe.
Politicians know better than any of us that with exposure also calms intense scrutiny. But never before in recent memory, as a political candidate and her family been so exposed, attacked, and ridiculed — by the same people who would have otherwise praised and worshiped her had she been a candidate for another party. In short, I do not think it is an exaggeration to say that many in the media desire to destroy Palin — using the unfortunate circumstances of her 17-year-old daughter and her newborn son to call into question her character, her abilities as a parent, and her ability to serve in public office.
This site was created and championed by a small group of people who, like many of you, were outraged, utterly outraged at the veracity, sexism, and partisan double-standard applied to Palin and her family. We watched tabloid after tabloid, “respectable” newspapers and news reporters become complicit in peddling a rumor cooked up by ruthless bloggers under the guise of news coverage. In short, it was truly sad chapter in American political history… the tabloidization of a candidate’s family at all levels of the press. In response to this outrageous activity, we hope that you would take a moment and voice your support of Sarah and her family in light of the cruel beating they have been taking the past few weeks.
